CHRISTEN SECTION

A GOLDSMITH’S DILEMMA
Dear children in Christ Jesus,
Among the Jews there is an old story which goes like this.  Once King David called his goldsmith and ordered him, “Within a span of two days, I want you to make a special ring for me. This is the attribute that I desire from the ring.  When I am sunk in sorrow it should comfort me, when I lose myself in times of joy, it should be able to put a check on me.”  If the ring fails in fulfilling these two demands, the goldsmith was warned that he would be beheaded; as this was the punishment in those days. The demand of His Majesty led the goldsmith to great sorrow and anguish; his thoughts led to brood over the ring; and he could neither see any way out. Meanwhile, the young prince Solomon was playing in the porch. On seeing the goldsmith worried, the prince went up you him enquire and after listening to the narration of the goldsmith the prince realized the anguish that flooded his heart. The countenance of the prince was a reflection of the brightness and wisdom of God’s glory. He suggested a clever idea and after comforting the goldsmith, Solomon retreated to his games. Finally the day came when the ring would be presented to King David.
The King adorned his finger with the ring and he was pleased with what he saw. “This too shall pass” were carved on the golden ring. Being contentment with the result, King David bestowed many gifts to the goldsmith.

Dear children, alike prince Solomon, God has blessed each of you with wisdom, understanding, compassion to express your love and concern to your parents and others. When your guardians/ parents are anxious or worried about you, take note of it, do approach them and discuss with them. Their cause of concern would be your behavior, or your carefree attitude. Studies and self grooming are very essential at this stage of your life. What might be a minute, careless matter for you it; could be something that would be unacceptable to them. Respect their dreams and ambitions for you; value their concerns regarding you. Console them, promising to do the right thing and do your best to stick to it.  Respecting and obeying them equals to respecting your Creator. Regularly include them in your daily prayers, look for ways to please them; live up to their expectations and experience how Lord Jesus will comfort them. May the Lord shower his choicest favors over each of you.

May the Lord bless you and take care of you. May He be kind and gracious to you. May the Lord look on you with favour and give you peace.

With love filled blessings,
Your Sister in Christ

LENTEN MESSAGE
SAVING GRACE OF GOD
The Holy Bible says, “The law of the Lord is perfect; it gives new strength.”  (Psalms 19: 7)

Daniel a noble, intelligent and specially blessed young man by God to interpret visions and dreams was appointed during the reign of King Darius to supervise the governors and to manage the king’s interests. His outstanding reliability and honesty was a cause of concern for the other governors and supervisors who would be jealous and look out for ways to corner Daniel; who was trustworthy, pious and consistent in his worship to the true living God three times a day. They decided to trap him through his religion and so requested the king to send a decree that no one would be permitted to worship their god except His Majesty; and whoever violates this law would be thrown into a pit filled with lions.
Daniel respected the king but never compromised with the Law of True Living God. He knelt down at his open window and prayed as always. His enemy’s watchful eyes caught him and they accused Daniel before the king for violating His Majesty’s order. Though the King had empathy towards Daniel; yet he was helpless before his own decree and gave permission to throw Daniel into the pit filled with hungry lions, pronouncing, “Daniel, may your God, whom you serve so loyally rescue you.” The next dawn, the king hurried to the pit and found that Daniel was safe; he was overjoyed when the pious young man answered, “God sent his angel to shut the mouths of lions so that they would not hurt me.  He did this because he knew that I was innocent and because I have not wronged you, your majesty.”
Daniel in the lion's pit well guarded by Sovereign God
Dear readers, is the Lord whom you worship capable to save you? Daniel proved his faithfulness and obedience to his God and His Law and God rewarded His faithful by rescuing him from the mouth of the lions. The Lord our Living God, at Mount Sinai made a covenant not only for our forefathers but also for all those living today. “Worship no God but Me”, God explained, “not to make any images of anything and do not bow down to any idols or worship it.” Daniel was well aware of the dangers that awaited him on his disobedience to the king’s order, yet he was not fearful of the punishment and was ready to die rather than disobey His faithful God. Our existing world is a damaged one- where dangers await every moment; yet we are sluggish towards our approach to God who alone can save us. How ashamed are we at times to utter our faith explicitly!
Dear readers, with a true sense, break off all the deceitful chains and release yourself. Be bold enough to fast from all your idol worship to please your friends, boss or family members, superiors or anyone who follow such acts. Let us pray to God on their behalf for a way to open their inner eyes to the truth. Let us also abstain from sin and its consequences for disobeying the first Law of loving God. We , mankind fast for various purposes. This Lenten fast actually bridges our ways closer to Lord Jesus; to make atonement for our sins. Through fasting and abstinence we ought to refrain from our senseless acts that please just our mortal self and develop a strong will power to fight against it. These will assist to control the confusion in our lives and to articulate boldly with a Yes’ or ‘No’ to the circumstances clearly.
Never be of the opinion that the season of Lent is to cry in pain and suffering of Christ Jesus; instead create a new loving and loyal heart towards Jesus Christ and to others. May this Lenten journey assist us in repairing the broken bricks and cracks of our family relations. For the sake of Christ Jesus who died for you and me, accept your life partner as he or she is because Christ agreed to die for your salvation when you were a sinner. He allowed to wound His soul and body for every human.

Hence, Lent is the observant time to wash His Holy wounds, apply ointment and bandage it. Could you be successful in applying medicine to atleast to one wound of your beloved Saviour? Dear ones, if you abstain from this holy deed who else would adhere to it? We, His beloved are only there for Jesus Christ.
Remembering our Lord Jesus’ quote- that whatever we do for the least; we do it for Him let us see our Lord in each of our family member let us accept them as they are. Blessed are those who cried out with Lord Jesus; Veronica who took courage to wipe the face of the wounded Lord amidst His accusers; Simon of Cyrene who got an opportunity to help Lord Jesus to carry the cross;  Nicodemus and Joseph of Arimethia who could do the last rites of Lord Jesus;  His disciple John who stood at the Holy feet of the cross accepting Mother Mary as his own mother, and comforted her. Yes dear loved ones in Christ, we are also highly blessed if you could see Jesus in those who are wounded, bitterly crying, carrying heavy loads and dying spiritually, abandoned parents, children, wives, husbands, etc. You may be one among them if you accept your family unconditionally.  He says to you, “I will send my saving grace to those who observe my command truly.”  Do not falter in His commandment; never bend the Lord’s command nor add to it.  Let it always be a ‘Yes’ to the Lord.

Temptations come to remind that we are humans; it is not a sin. We can overcome it by turning our gaze to Jesus our Master, who overcame all the temptations of the world victoriously and taught us to pray at all times in mind “Lead us not to temptations, but deliver us, O Lord.”

Temptations are like spider, which makes webs in our houses.  If we allow them, they make the webs everywhere and create troubles.  So we need to remove it on a regular basis.  So also if we allow temptations to take place in our heart and fall into it, accordingly we have to suffer the consequences.  But if we overcome it, we promote to more spiritual maturity by avoiding sin.  So do not worry about your fear of temptations, but strive to overcome it by using the above-said methods.
During this Lent let us concentrate on reunion of our  family unity by correcting self; believing that Lord my Saviour died for me, to teach me to accept and love one another.  God gave us this life and relationships to sustain them through Him. Therefore He has the means to maintain those relationships because He generously gave us such a precious gift - ‘Salvation made possible to us’. You can surely trust Him for your present intention.  So do not be worried about the past or future, be still on present, strive for the betterment in union with Christ Jesus.  Let your God be the origin of all creation, the invisible spiritual God always inspires to love Him, yourself and others.  But worship only Him.  One step ahead bring back the abandoned ones from your family – you may have forgotten to have connection with certain people whom God gifted in your life – it can be the hindrance to your health and prosperity, it can also break the chord of your parent –children relation.  Strive to become a transformed person and experience a deeper sense that life is safer and secure with Jesus Christ.  Never be afraid of crowds or trials of daily life, but like Daniel with a strong will power, deep insight foreview the power of the Living Lord, who can rescue from all disasters and adversity. He will rule forever and His Kingdom will never be destroyed.  His power will never come to an end; He is the One who can save and rescue you.  He can perform wonders and miracles in heaven and on earth.  Halleluiah!
Dear readers, fear and respect Him.  He will honour you.  King Darius gave orders to arrest all the men who had accused Daniel and they were thrown together with their wives and children into the pit filled with lions and before they reached the bottom of the pit, the lions pounced on them and broke off all their bones.  The Lord of Daniel says, “My love for you is too strong.”  “Don’t think that the Lord is too weak to save you or too deaf to hear your call for help.”  (Isaiah 59:1)
The kind of fasting the Lord wants is this:  Remove the chains of oppression and the yoke of injustice, and let the oppressed go free.  Share your food with the hungry, open your homes for the homeless poor.  Give clothes to those who have nothing to wear and do not refuse to help your own relatives. Dear devotees of Christ, God do not ask you to buy the Kingdom of God by merely spending your currency.  He does not need your money and great sacrifices.  If you try to put an end to oppression, to every gesture of contempt, to every evil word and satisfy those who are in need, then the darkness around you will turn to the brightness of noon.  He will keep you strong and well to rebuild the ruined walls of your houses.

May the Lord bless you and take care of you. May He be kind and gracious to you. May the Lord look on you with favour and give you peace.

With love filled blessings,

Your Sister in Christ

A PRAYER FOR JUSTICE

O Lord, my God, I come to you for protection
rescue me and save me from all who pursue me,
Or else like a lion they will carry me off
where no one can save me,
and there they will tear me to pieces.

O Lord, my God if I have wronged anyone,
If I have betrayed a friend
or without cause done violence to my enemy-
if I have done any of these things-
then let my enemies pursue me and catch me,
let them cut me down and kill me
and leave me lifeless on the ground!

Rise in your anger, O Lord!
Stand up against the fury of my enemies;
Rouse yourself and help me!
Justice is what you demand,
so bring together all the peoples round you,
and rule over them from above.
You are the judge of all mankind.
Judge in my favour O Lord;
you know that I am innocent.
You are a righteous God
 and judge our thoughts and desires.
Stop the wickedness of evil men
and reward those who are good.

God is my protector; He saves those who obey Him,
God is a righteous judge and always condemns the wicked.
If they do not change their ways,
God will sharpen His sword.
He bends His bow and makes it ready;
It takes up his deadly weapons
and aims his burning arrows.

See how wicked people think up evil;
They plan trouble and practice deception.
But the traps they set for others,
they themselves get caught.
So they are punished by their own evil
and are hurt by their own violence.

I thank the Lord for His justice,
I sing praises to the Lord, the Most High
(Psalms 7)
May the Lord bless you and take care of you. May He be kind and gracious to you. May the Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.

THE TEMPTATION OF JESUS
Then the Spirit led Jesus into the desert to be tempted by the devil.  After spending forty days and nights without food, Jesus was hungry.  Then the devil came to Him and said, “If you are God’s Son, order these stones to turn into bread.”
But Jesus answered, “The Scripture says, “Man cannot live on bread alone, but needs every word that God speaks.”
Then the devil took Jesus to Jerusalem, the Holy City, set Him on the highest point of the Temple and said to Him, “If you are God’s Son, throw yourself down, for the Scripture says, ‘God will give orders to His angels about you; they will hold you up with their hands, so that not even your feet will be hurt on the stones.’
Jesus answered, “But the Scripture also says, ‘Do not put the Lord your God to the test.’
Then the devil took Jesus to a high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world in all their greatness.  “All this I will give you.” the devil said, “if you kneel down and worship me.”  Then Jesus answered, “Go away, satan!  The scripture says, ‘Worship the Lord your God and serve only Him!’
Then the devil left Jesus; and the angels came and helped Him.

(Matthew 4: 1 –11)
This is the Word of Lord
Thanks be to the God

May the Lord bless you and take care of you. May He be kind and gracious to you. May the Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.

A BEAUTIFUL SHORT PRAYER OF REPENTANCE
Lord Almighty, God of our fathers,
God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
God of their righteous descendants,
you created the universe
and all the splendour that fills it.
The sea obeys your command
and never overflows its bounds.
The power of your wonderful, glorious name
keeps the ocean depths in their place.
When you show your power, all creation trembles.
Your glorious splendour is overwhelming,
and your anger is more than sinners can endure.
But the mercy you promise is also greater
than we can understand or measure.
For you are the Lord Most High;
you are patient and show mercy and compassion.
You make our punishment easier to bear
when we suffer for our sins.
O Lord, in your great goodness and mercy
you promise forgiveness and salvation
to those who repent of their sin against you.
You, Lord, are the God of righteous people.
Repentance was not necessary
for Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob,
for they did not sin against you.
But for sinners like me
you have made repentance possible.
I have committed more sins
than there are grains of sand along the seashore.
They are so many, Lord, they are so many.
I have done so much that is wrong
that I am not worthy to turn my face towards heaven.
I am crushed beneath the weight of my sin;
I am bowed down by its heavy iron chain.
I can find no relief, for I have made you angry.
I have set up idols everywhere; I have done what you hate.
But now I bow in deep humility, praying for your mercy.
I have sinned, Lord, I have sinned;
I confess the wicked things I have done.
I beg you, Lord, I earnestly pray; forgive me, forgive me.
Do not destroy me because of my sins;
do not be angry with me forever or store up punishment for me.
Do not condemn me to the world of the dead,
for you, O Lord, forgive those who repent.
Show me all your mercy and kindness and save me,
even though I do not deserve it.
Then I will go on praising you as long as I live.
All the heavenly powers sing your praises,
and your glory endures forever.
Amen.

(Manasseh)
May the Lord bless you and take care of you. May He be kind and gracious to you. May the Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.

YOUTH CORNER

GOD WHO CAME IN SEARCH OF ME

The Holy Bible says, “I will praise you, Lord, with all my heart; I will tell of all the wonderful things you have done. (Psalms 9:1)

This testimony is in honor and thanksgiving to my Loving Heavenly Father and Spiritual Teacher. I am grateful for having this opportunity to share my spiritual journey with you all. I have been associated with KLWC since 1995. Let me introduce myself and take you through my young days.

Born into a very loving Catholic family, I was youngest of the three siblings. My dad was a very caring, honest and disciplined person; while mom was strict, hardworking and took care of our studies. I remember how our parents ensured that we gather for the Holy Rosary which kept us united as a family. I was a fine student blessed with good grasping ability. I loved participating in sports and so, my parents enrolled me once for a running race in a community ground where children from different schools were participating. My parents and siblings were present in the stands to cheer me. The whistle was blown and everybody took off, so did I in full confidence; but somewhere midway mark I fell down. I looked around to see my parents encouraging me to get up and get going; my eyes also went to the crowd who began to laugh while the other participants raced past. I just stood there crying unable to continue. This incident had a deep effect on my psyche.  As life continued, this incident was forgotten and got on with my studies. I was having a good time in life enjoying the company of elders and friends. That’s when life took an ugly turn! I lost my dad at a tender age of twelve due to illness. I was so fond of him; hardly got a chance to know him and could not grasp that he was no more. I would often ask God why He had taken my dad away so soon from me. All of a sudden there was a vacuum which could not be filled. Following dad’s demise we had to leave the company quarters and relocate to a new location.

Disobedience sprouted in me and I began to lose interest in studies and certain subjects seemed more like a burden. I somehow completed my schooling all the while realizing that I was letting myself down. It was difficult to obtain a job without any technical background. Few years passed with our family being supported by my mother and sister who would take tuitions and go for work respectively. Unable to find a decent job; uncertainty about my future grew, losing my self-confidence and respect within my family. Guilt began invading me and the feeling that I was good-for -nothing took deep root in me. I had reached to the brink where I was unable to accept and saw myself in the shore of depression; devoid of any hope. An empty mind is the devil’s workshop was true in my case. I would often regret my actions; ask forgiveness but would never keep my promises. Meanwhile a friend of mine helped me to obtain job at his office.

The only escape from the world was music and would spend hours listening and singing western songs. Memorizing each lines of the song would be my favorite pastime and grant me peace. Gradually my interest in music led me to learn a musical instrument and through this I got acquainted with my parishioners. We would practice together; and also for special occasions and functions participate in the choir which made me a known figure in our small parish. Being engrossed with work and music I kept myself busy. Though everything seemed okay outside, I lacked peace. I would consider myself as a righteous person as I never meddled in other’s affairs, no habit of quarrelling and had a good relation with everyone; no bad name or enemies. But at the end of each passing day; I began to feel lonely even among friends; just me, myself.

Now life was bit brighter with a job, family support and friends. Again when we least expect life threw another blow to cut my joy. I was diagnosed with bronchitis, a severe breathing disorder. Again I would raise my question –Lord, I don’t smoke then how did I get this? But no response! The absence of a father shattered the unity of my family, and everyone had their way. The family prayer the source of unity was discontinued and frequent quarrels would take place. It was no more of a home!

But God had not given up on me and He had better plans in store…. when I least expected it.

It was in this crushing situation that my mother heard about KLWC prayer and began participating in the prayer for mothers. Under Respected Sister’s guidance and prayer support, my mother’s faith was renewed; and she was blessed with new hope and courage to deal with our life situation. She would share her experience with me, but I chose to ignore it. The Holy Verses, “Believe in me,” Lord Jesus said, “you and your family will be saved” (Acts 16:31) came true in our family. Praises to You my Lord!

As the saying goes ‘Ignorance is bliss’. My perception was that the definition of righteous tagged me as I would never hurt or harm anyone intentionally or involve in quarrels and think bad for someone. My health condition worsened and I was admitted. At my mother’s request, Respected Sister visited me at the hospital and prayed over me. Few weeks after my discharge, my mother again persuaded me to pay visit to KLWC. Though my pride and darkness would deter me; but my mother’s constant persuasion paid off and finally I agreed and accompanied her. What I saw was a person very unassuming and simple, with a gentle smile. On my mother’s request, she placed her holy and anointed hands over me and prayed. I experienced my stiffness depart and being filled with peace and holy relaxation. After the pray-over she told my mother, “There is nothing wrong. Everything is fine, He is a good boy.” Comforting words I had heard in a very long time. Thus passed my first day at KLWC.

THE GREAT TAX COLLECTOR- ZACCHAEUS
Long time back in Jericho; Two thousand years ago
Lived a man whose Zacchaeus was name;
Who was rich had status and fame.
Still he lacked peace in his family;
Neither was there love nor joy or unity.

To see Jesus was his plan; but he was a short little man
So he ran ahead to see, and climbed a Sycamore tree.
To see Jesus was his desire;
Burning in him like a jungle fire.

When Jesus reached below the tree there;
He lifted his head and gave a loving stare;
And said to him, “Hurry down!”
For his house was chosen in that town.
For He should stay there that day
To show Zacchaeus the Salvation way.

The people around began to grumble,
But from Father’s will, Jesus did not stumble;
For Zacchaeus was proof for man;
To see God’s love for the sinner clan.

Zacchaeus stood and said to Christ:
“Sir, I’ll return the robbed rights;
To poor I’ll give half my belongings;
To pay back the ones I’m longing.”

Jesus smiled and stood up to say:
“Salvation has come to this house today.”

By giving everything when he did surrender;
Jesus gave peace and threw his sins never to remember;
For the Son of Man came to seek
To save the lost, the humble and the meek.

(Luke 19:1-9)
May the Lord bless you and take care of you. May He be kind and gracious to you. May the Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.
