THE BOOK OF JOB

VOICE OF GOD

Listen, all of you, the voice of God,
to the thunder that comes from His mouth.
He sends the lightening across the sky,
from one end of the earth to the other.
Then the roar of His voice is heard
the majestic sound of thunder,
and all the while the lightning flashes.
At God’s command amazing things happen,
wonderful things that we can’t understand.
He commands snow to fall on the earth,
and sends torrents of drenching rain.
He brings the work of men to a stop;
He shows them what He can do.
The wild animals go to their dens.
The storm winds come from the south,
and the biting cold from the north.
The breath of God freezes the waters,
and turns them to solid ice.
Lightning flashes from the clouds,
as they move at God’s will.
They do all that God commands,
everywhere throughout the world.
God sends rain to water the earth,
He may send it to punish men,
or to show them his favor.
Pause a moment, Job, and listen;
consider the wonderful things God does.
Do you know how God gives the command,
and makes lightening flash from the clouds?
Do you know how clouds float in the sky,
the work of God’s amazing skill?
No you can only suffer in the heat
when the south wind oppresses the land.
Can you help God stretch out the sky,
and make it as hard as polished metal?
Teach us what to say to God;
our minds are blank; we have nothing to say.
I won’t ask to speak with God;
why should I give Him a chance to destroy me?
And now the light in the sky is dazzling,
too bright for us to look at it;
and the sky has been swept clean by the wind.
A golden glow is seen in the north,
and the glory of God fills us with awe.
God’s power is so great that we cannot come near Him;
He is righteous and just in his dealings with men.
No wonder, then, that everyone stands in awe of Him,
and that He ignores those who claim to be wise.
 (Job 37:2 – 24)

THE LORD’S CALL TO REPENTANCE

“But even now,” says the Lord,
“repent sincerely and return to Me
with fasting and weeping and mourning.
Let your broken heart show your sorrow;
tearing your clothes is not enough.”

Come back to the Lord your God.
He is kind and full of mercy;
He is patient and keeps His promise;
He is always ready to forgive and not punish.
Perhaps the Lord your God will change His mind
and bless you with abundant crops.
Then you can offer Him corn and wine.

Blow the trumpet on Mount Zion;
give orders for a fast and call an assembly!
Gather the people together;
prepare them for a sacred meeting;
bring the old people;
gather the children and the babies too.
Even newly married couples must leave their room and come.
The priests, serving the Lord between the altar
and the entrance of the Temple, must weep and pray.
“Have pity on your people, Lord.
Do not let other nations despise us and mock us
by saying, “Where is your God?”        (Joel 2:12 –17)

Kindly Note:
As per the message from God of KLWC, our team will be conducting an in-house 48 hours fasting prayer service from the 3rd Oct 2015 to 4th Oct 2015.  Your Thanksgivings and Prayer Requests are welcome.

PSALMS 84
LONGING FOR GOD’S HOUSE
                                 How I love your temple, Lord Almighty!
How I want to be there!
I long to be in the Lord’s Temple.
With my whole being I sing for joy to the Living God.
Even the sparrows have built a nest,
And the swallows have their own home;
they keep their young near your altars,
Lord Almighty, my King and my God.
How happy are those who live in your Temple
Always singing praise to you.

How happy are those whose strength comes from You,
who are eager to make the pilgrimage to Mount Zion.
As they pass through the dry valley of Baca,
It becomes a place of springs;
the autumn rain fills it with pools.
They grow stronger as they go;
they will see the God of gods on Zion.

Hear my prayer, Lord God Almighty.
Listen, O God of Jacob!
Bless our king O God, the king you have chosen.

One day spent in your Temple
is better than a thousand anywhere else;
I would rather stand at the gate of the house of my God
than live in the homes of the wicked.
The Lord is our Protector and Glorious King,
blessing us with kindness and honor.
He does not refuse any good thing to those who do what is right.
Lord Almighty, how happy are those who trust in you!

THE COVENANT IS RENEWED

The Lord said to Moses, “I now make a covenant with the people of Israel.  In their presence I will do great things such as never been done anywhere on earth among any of the nations.  All the people will see what great things I, the Lord, can do, because I am going to do an awesome thing for you.  Obey the laws I am giving you today.  I will drive out the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as you advance.  Do not make any treaties with the people of the country into which you are going, because this could be a fatal trap for you.  Instead, tear down their altars, destroy their sacred pillars, and cut down the symbols of their goddess Asherah.

Do not worship any other god, because I, the Lord, tolerate no rivals.  Do not make any treaties with the people of the country, because when they worship their pagan gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you to join them, and you will be tempted to eat the food they offer to their gods.  Your sons might marry those foreign women, who would lead them to be unfaithful to me and to worship their pagan gods.

“Do not make and worship gods of metal.

“Keep the Festival of Unleavened Bread.  As I have commanded you, eat unleavened bread for seven days in the month of Abib, because it was in that month that you left Egypt.

“Every first-born son and first born male domestic animal belongs to Me, but you are to buy back every first born donkey by offering a lamb in its place.  If you do not buy it back, break its neck.  Buy back every first born son.

“No one is to appear before Me without an offering.  You have six days in which to do your work, but do not work on the seventh day, not even during ploughing time or harvest.

“Keep the Harvest Festival when you begin to harvest the first crop of your wheat, and keep the Festival of Shelters in the autumn when you gather your fruit.

“Three times a year all your men must come to worship Me, the Lord, the God of Israel.  After I have driven out the nations before you and extended your territory, no one will try to conquer your country during the three festivals.

“Do not offer bread made with yeast when you sacrifice an animal to me.  Do not keep until the following morning any part of the animal killed at the Passover festival.

“Each year bring to the house of the Lord the first corn that you harvest.

“Do not cook a young sheep or goat in its mother’s milk.”

The Lord said to Moses, “Write these words down, because it is on the basis of these words that I am making a covenant with you and with Israel.”  Moses stayed there with the Lord forty days and nights, eating and drinking nothing.  He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant – the Ten Commandments.
(Exodus 34:10-28)
This is the Word of the Lord

A CALL TO DISCIPLESHIP

When devout people talk, what they say always makes sense….. (Sirach 27:11)

The Parable of the Two Sons

“Now, what do you think? There was once a man who had two sons. He went to the elder one and said, ‘Son, go and work in the vineyard today.’  ‘I don’t want to,’ he answered, but later he changed his mind and went. Then the father went to the other son and said the same thing. ‘Yes, sir,’ he answered, but he did not go. Which one of the two did what his father wanted?”

“The elder one,” they answered.

So Jesus said to them, “I tell you: the tax collectors and the prostitutes are going into the Kingdom of God ahead of you. For John the Baptist came to you showing the right path to take, and you would not believe him; but the tax collectors and the prostitutes believed him. Even when you saw this, you did not later change your minds and believe him.  (Matthew 21:28-32)

Here we can see two types of response to a call.

The father lovingly approaches the elder son to go to the vineyard but he refuses.  The initial refusal may be due to various reasons like non-acceptance or grudge towards his father or other priorities; but later on he has a change of mind and he obey his father. But he later rethought about it, changed his attitude about disobeying his father and finally obeys.

Whereas the other son, in his appearance though seemed polite  yet went on to disobey his father. Though he accepted the request gladly yet did not fulfill to what he agreed. His response is like those people who want to please others only with their lips, but in reality they are unwilling to do any good or to help others.
They forget that they are defaming themselves by not keeping their words.

“Just say ‘Yes’ or ‘No’ – anything else you say comes from the evil one.” (Matthew 5:37)

“All of us often make mistakes. But if a person never makes a mistake in what he says, he is perfect and is also able to control his whole being.” (James 3:7)

Both the sons are equally wrong in their words and deeds. This nature is common when we are called to certain duties.

Let us take the example of a marital life which is a call for two persons from different families and backgrounds.  In the presence of God, reverently and obediently both the bride and the groom, accepts the vows and agrees to fulfill the duties towards each other.

But as life moves on, how many of us succeed in taking true pain to follow the vows and promises that help us in attaining the blessings towards our family life.

Through the parable we observe that those who say no to the call and push themselves back and later when change their minds and accept it will be honored as a righteous person and given a seat in the front. He would be honored as a righteous person, who ran the race and worked hard to fulfill his duty. Remember always that our help, our deeds should be punctual and timely so that it may be useful and fruitful, just as God our Father provides us everything at the proper and appropriate time.
Dear devotees, if we Biblically see Luke 19, a man called Zacchaeus said Yes to his call and obtained forgiveness and salvation and he received the honor, richness and long life.

Due to fear, even Peter said, “I don’t know Him,” and ran away from the truth.  Again he repents and came back to his call and completed his duty accepting death on a cross upside down.

Apart from these two types there are people who accept the call by answering Yes and go ahead, work hard for the Lord and pay the price of sacrifice and obtain their crown. They are given the title of  Saints.

Reverse situation can be painful. There are people who respond with a No and remain adamant and lead a life against the will of God. They are called as sinners.

“When devout people talk, what they say always makes sense, but foolish people are always contradicting themselves.” (Sirach 27:11)

One who is steady in his words, will be success in his work. You must have a firm decision in mind that what you speak or promise is to be completed on right time and in the right manner so as to get approved from the Father above. Only a sincere heart person can balance both his/her words and deeds.  Simultaneously in this parable both fail, one either in words and the other in deeds.

For e.g. when a needy person approaches asking for help, you console him by saying that you will do the needful. But when the time comes for your words to turn into action, you turn and escape. This is truly unfair.

On the other   hand some say a no but later change their mind to help. It is better that though we say No but later change our attitude and do the right thing.
Since this parable is in regards to the call for discipleship, here the father represents St. John the Baptist who is reminding people of God’s call.

Why do I fail to do my duty? Why can’t anyone truly enjoy my work?

Majority of mankind are unable to keep up their words and deeds. If you go through the life of Christ Jesus we can see his Words and Deeds go hand in hand.
All His words were proved in His actions.

The Word was made flesh and dwelt among us who reminds us to follow him. Through this parable the Lord tells us to follow Him.

                                                   A PRAYER
Lord Jesus, light of my life thank you for refreshing my mind through Your words. You have sent me to this earth, to go and work in your vineyard. Knowingly and unknowingly, cunningly and through cheating I became the work of evil. Like the first son, grant me the grace to live like a saint by respond to your call sincerely and by complete the work bearing the loss of it.  May the Light of Your Word and deeds remain in my remaining life. I pray to my Loving Father in the Name of Jesus. Amen!

YOU ARE PRICE WORTH AND
PRAISE WORTH

“…..The body is not to be used for sexual immorality, but to serve the Lord; and the Lord provides for the body.”  (1 Cor. 6:13)

The changes in Tessy made her mother restless, devoid of sleep and food.  Lack of interest and love, and complaints began to spread in her life, slowly moving Tessy to the shore of loneliness. She began regarding others to have better skills and talents than her.

What she saw in the mirror too, brought complaints on her lips.  She disliked her height which was more than required for her age, her dark complexion which neither in her family nor her classmates had and the curly hair took away all the charm and joy of her life.  Her parents were disturbed on seeing their daughter’s behavior.

Submitting to her parent’s pressure, Tessy attended a retreat.

She disliked God, who created her and listening to the Word of God was also the same.

However, even without her knowledge some verses pierced her. “Dear daughter, you are precious to me.  I am the One who created you.  You are mine.  I have formed you in the most beautiful way I like.”  All these verses kept on working in her mind, realizing how cruelly she had behaved towards the Lord God who loved her so much.

Soon she pained and sorrowful by her actions. She prayed to be filled with God’s love.  Her sorrowful appearance and evil thoughts began to vanish and she was able to love herself.  She found out the cause for her life.  The hatred towards her body and talent soon departed, letting in the grace to forgive herself and her classmates who constantly discouraged her.  As she realized the value of her life she began to love herself and others.

Some people because of self –hatred begin to love loneliness, move to wrong path, divulge in drinking, smoking, bad friends etc, and self harm.
If we understand the unconditional love of our Father, then we shall know the value of our own body.

Dear ones, the sun that rises up every morning describes the marvels of the creation of the Highest God.  The shining stars make the night sky lovely, they are brilliant ornaments in the Lord’s high heaven.  Various things have been designed precisely and according to the need in very different manner.  The variations in the living creatures and its marvels give us the inspiration to appreciate the hands that molded them.  By giving authority over everything, God created man in His own image and reflection.  He has carefully fixed each and every organ in its own place.

Memory power, taste, sense of touch, sense of hearing, movement, vision, smell – all these have been placed in us by God.  All these are not the work or skills of the parents who gave us birth.  Each and everyone are unique and different from others.  Talents and skills also differ.

Not a single person is similar to another.  If all were created alike, then perhaps there might have been the need to allot numbers to each person.

Dear ones, from the beginning itself God knows and loves us.
A mother begins to love her child from the moment she sees it. It is because she can’t see the baby that she does not even hesitate to murder the child in her womb.  When our form was unknown to us, God was aware of our shortcomings and weakness.   Yet He continues to love us.

He loved those who were His own.  By loving till the end He says, “……… remain in my love” (John 15:9)

Tessy was a very pious and devoted child. It was when she began to get distracted by other’s talents; she began to hate her own abilities. Soon her love towards others and God’s love departed from her.

When a person is not able to love and accept oneself, his or her life proceeds to path of failure.  When they come across continual insults and discouraging words instead of praiseworthy appreciation and encouragement, children begin to hate themselves saying, “I am useless” and this suppresses all the inspirations from their brain blocking its development.

Parents who have the habit of constantly blaming their children need to receive inner healing.

Love your neighbor as you love yourself.  In order to obey this commandment, we ought to be capable to love ourselves. By looking at ourselves we must have the inner strength to praise Our Creator.

We who say that we love God need to express our love towards Him, who has revealed His love for us in its full realism.    “This is how we know what love is: Christ gave His life for us.  We too, then, ought to give our lives for our brothers!”  (1 John 3:16).

By seeking and finding the man who is completely broken and shattered God has given his own life as a price for him. “For you know what was paid to set you free from the worthless manner of life handed down by your ancestors.  It was not something that can be destroyed such as silver or gold.  It was the costly sacrifice of Christ who was like the lamb without defect or flaw.”         (1 Peter 1:18-19)

Yes dear ones, what value Lord Jesus has that much value you and I have.  By flinging away this mysterious fact we are giving up our bodies for evil things.

How much uncomfortable we are when we lose just one gram of gold?  How worried and restless we become even if it has been gifted? How great is our liking towards these perishable things?

If it is so, does the heart of that Lord who carefully created us with a special plan in His own image, reflection and imparted love and life in it and safeguards us like the apple of His eye, shatter when we vanish from his sight!

Won’t the Blood of Lamb cry out there?  By giving His only Beloved Son to the enemies He bought back our life.  How much more should we honor our body that is so much valuable and consider it holy?  Do we who misuse and disrespect our bodies have any right to expect anything good?
What grave mistakes do human beings commit knowingly and unknowingly against the Creator?

Yes, the Lord says, “If one day the sky could be measured and the foundations of the earth explored only then would He reject the people of Israel because of all they have done.”  (Jeremiah 31:37)

We are dishonoring this incomparable love!

The Lord says, “The body is the temple of the Holy Spirit who lives in you and who was given to you by God.”  (1 Cor. 6:19)  We who are the possessors of God are the temple of God.

We have to enthrone our God who is Spirit and must submit ourselves to the Holy Spirit by SELF CONTROL

“…..God who gave you your name, will now bring comfort to you.”  (Baruch 4:30)

By confessing our helpless situation we can frequently recite, “Jesus my Master! Save me” and then you will be able to confront any mental struggle.

The one who gets attracted to others beauty & skills and hates self talents and life is rebelling against God.

Once a young girl’s letter addressed to me read: “I am a person who has met failure in committing suicide because of my hopelessness in life.  I have intense anger towards God, the world and myself.  The reason is that God has created only me in such a bad manner that no one can accept me. A big dark blue scar has covered completely on one side of my cheek.  Because of shame I can’t lift my face.  Everyone hurts me by saying that it is the fruits of my deeds.”

According to God’s plan with advice and instructions I replied to her.

After one month I again happened to read that girl’s letter. “Aunty, now I have realized that God loves me.  Do you know for how many years I have cursed my Jesus?  By loving my face and as a result of praising God, now its color has diminished to a great deal.  Not only that now the scar is not growing.  One third of the portion has vanished away.  Just as you said, I have forgotten all those who made fun of me.  As per your instructions, I am praying for them and I have asked forgiveness to my parents who gave me birth.  I have asked forgiveness to Lord Jesus.  Today I don’t feel any shame or sadness.  When I used to see a beautiful person I used to curse myself.  But today I can love myself and that has filled in me.”

Dear ones, only our Father can accept us at all times in the condition we are.  We shall receive comfort if we come in His presence and speak out the painful stories that we receive through our shortcomings.  We can obtain the grace to forgive everyone unconditionally.

When his whole body was attacked by leprosy, Job was rejected by all.  His friends approached him only to wound him more.  By forgiving everything and mediating on the power of God, Job’s hope did not diminish.

Numerous hurt feelings and discouraging incidents lead to defeat and generate countless mental patients.  There arises many occasions for the modern generation whereby their talents remain suppressed or deviate to wrong path.

If you will not falter from this fact that ‘my Creator has a good fortune for me’, then you will be able to grow in God’s grace.

Repeatedly pray in this manner, “O God! By your healing touch heal the wounds that have occurred due to my shortcomings.”

And then evil and unholiness won’t touch your body.

The lips that used to give complaints will spread forth praises to God.  You will be transformed into streams of God’s love and thus you who have learnt to love yourself,  will love your neighbors and be capable of saving them; and the ignorant will come to know that Jesus Christ is the atonement and the solution to all the problems.

With love filled blessings,
Your Sister in Christ!
