THE EYES OF MERCY

Heavenly Father, we thank you for the Precious Gift of Mother Mary to us.

The birth of a child is an occasion of great joy, but the fact remains that we are all born out of original sin.

Mary’s soul was the most beautiful design created by God after the Incarnation of the Eternal Word, a most supreme and worthy present of Himself that an Omnipotent God ever did in this world.

There is no doubt that God blessed Mary with His grace as She was chosen to be the Mother of God but even before She was conferred with the Most Holy position She was adorned with the sanctity that was fit for this dignity.

St. Thomas Aquinas teaches us that the Most Blessed Virgin was so full of grace, that from the beginning her beautiful soul belonged to God. Secondly the grace overflowed to her body, as She merited to cloth the Eternal Word with Her most pure flesh. Thirdly, She was filled to think of the benefit of all, so that all might gain from the Salvation.

Let us joyfully witness Her presence in our day to day life as She was the first one to be loved and honored by God.

Let me share two of the many incidents that Mother Mary stood as a rock and guardian in my time of distress during my journey of life.

My elder daughter, born underweight, was kept in the incubator for almost nine days all the while losing her health to various infections. Holding onto Holy Rosary and Novenas of the Blessed Mary, I was granted extra courage to discharge her against medical advice, as it was unbearable to see the little one suffer. I brought the nine day old tiny bundle to my humble abode, laying her beneath my altar, totally surrendering to Mother Mary to take charge of her.
Lifting my cry of anguish and abandoning food and sleep for the next 3 days and 2 nights, my eyes were fixed on the Blessed Virgin and my child. Miraculously my child began to regain her health and soon we were even provided with a home doctor to keep a timely check on her.

Once again with heartfelt gratitude I offered her to Mother Mary, with a prayer that my child be Hers. Till date she is safe in Mother’s hands and able to overcome all trials and tribulations in her life. I offer all my honor and glory to my Beloved Mother.

A complication arose during the fifth month of my second pregnancy. A scan revealed an acute cyst had formed over the foetus which blocked my child’s breath. After few days of observation, my gynecologist suggested as the matter was getting worse there was only one way out; to undergo a surgery.  Asking me to prepare myself mentally, she added that the surgery would be a risky one. They took a special written consent from us stating that they would not be held responsible had the child been injured during the procedure.
Apart from the regular prayers, I switched to recital of efficacious novenas to my Trustworthy Mother.  All my co-staffs too realizing the seriousness of the situation joined me with fasting and prayers. They equipped all the needs be it imparting courage to donating blood etc;

Here too my cry of anguish and distress reached the Queen of Mercy; as I could experience her assistance on the operation table. She kept me safe throughout and moreover the foetus in my womb was safe and sound. That moment I promised the Blessed Mother that my child and myself would be indebted to You and Your Son Jesus Christ throughout our life.

The Merciful Eyes of Mother Mary cannot forsake those who invoke Her.

Dear mothers, I assure you that whatever may be the condition of your children today, offer them to this Trustworthy Mother, she would keep them safe from all misfortunes.

Dear devotees of Christ, let me request you never to leave our Mother at the conclusion of the October month.

She requires our life to spread the message of Salvation; while we need her help every second of our life to overcome the temptations of the evil one.

A word of guidance to all the parents: Pray regularly to Mother Mary for the welfare of your children and family members; imbibe in children the practice of reciting small prayers like (Holy Mary, we love you, be with us); make a habit of gifting your children Rosary Prayer booklets and Rosaries, medals and permit them to carry it along with them devoutly.

You may not find a companion to recite the Holy Rosary; but let me remind you that Mary is always present when you recite it and your Guardian Angel would assist you to complete the recital.

Every ‘Salutation’ of Hail Mary will drive out your sorrows, fear letting in  a peace that only God can provide.

O Mary! Our Tender Mother, Comforter of the afflicted, pray for us who have recourse to Thee.  Amen.

With Love filled Blessings,

Your Sister in Christ

THE VIRTUES OF BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

“You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart.”  (Matt 22:3)

Whoever loves resembles the person loved or endeavors to become like that person according to the well known proverb, “Love either finds or make its like.”

As a result of our Love for Blessed Virgin, if we can prove the same by imitating her virtues, then that would be the greatest honor we could present Her. Replicating the virtues of Saints and the Holy Mother, will enable us to obtain more certainty and acknowledge greater abundance of favors, so that they can work more efficaciously in us.

Let us go through few virtues of our Blessed Virgin Mary.

‘Humility’: The foundation and guardian of all virtues.  Without humility no other virtues would exist in us.  St. Francis says, ‘God so loves humility that whenever He sees it He is immediately drawn there.’  The world was unfamiliar with humility until the Son of God Himself came on earth to teach it by His own example, when He said to us, “Learn from Me because I am meek and humble of heart.”
(Matthew 11:29).

Mary being the first and most perfect disciple of Lord Jesus was also first in humility and by its merits she was exalted above all creatures.  The first effect of humility of heart is a lowly opinion of oneself.  Mary always had a humble opinion of herself even though she knew she was enriched with the greatest graces.  A soul that is truly humble does not praise itself; when praised by others, refers it all to God.

Yes, we can never be true children of Mary, if we are not humble.

For example, when Gabriel the Archangel praised Mary and later St. Elizabeth also did the same, Mary refers it all to God by saying, “My heart praises the Lord; My soul is glad because of God my Savior, for He has remembered Me, his lowly servant!”  (Luke 1: 46-47)

St. Bernard says, ‘You cannot imitate the virginity of this humble Virgin, let us imitate her humility.’

‘Charity’: Where there is greatest purity, there is also greatest charity.  The more the heart is pure and empty of itself; the fullness of love towards God is evident. Holy Mary was so humble having nothing of self within her was thus filled with Divine Love of God.

God Himself has indeed given us the precept, “You shall love the Lord your God with your whole heart.”  (Matt 22:37)

This command is perfectly fulfilled only in heaven by mankind, but in the case of Mary it is been fulfilled in completion in this world itself because she practices virtues in the highest perfection.  The Love of God in her was so ardent which had no defect of any kind.  The Divine Love has penetrated and filled both in soul and body of Mary.  The Holy Spirit inflamed and melted Mary with love as fire does to iron.

St. Peter Damian says, “That the duties of her active life did not prevent her from loving, and love did not prevent her from attending to those duties.”  He who loves God loves also his neighbor.

So great was Mary’s charity when on earth that she helped the needy without even being asked.  For example the wedding feast at Cana.  (John 2:13)  Similarly, as soon as she heard of her cousin Elizabeth’s condition and knew she needed help, Mary went with haste to the hill country (Luke 1 : 39)
“Give and it will be given to you…….For the measure with which you measure, will be measured out to you.”  (Luke 6 : 38)  Anyone who assists the needy makes God indebted to him.

‘Faith’: St. Augustine wrote thus about Her faith, ‘When Mary consented to the incarnation of the Eternal Word, by means of Her faith She opened the heaven to mankind.’  Her faith made St. Elizabeth to address Her ‘Blessed’.
The Queen of True Faith alone has destroyed all heresies throughout the world.  She proved that faith is not only to be the rule of our belief, but also that of our actions.
St. Augustine insists, ‘If you say, ‘I believe’, then do what you say and it is faith.’
To have a ‘lively’ faith, live according to our belief.

‘HOPE’: Mary’s hope is also noteworthy.
God enlightens us with faith to know His goodness and promises He has made, so that this knowledge may elevate hope in us.  Mary was totally detached from earthly affections, leaning on Her beloved Divine Grace. For example when She saw the anxiety of Her Holy spouse St. Joseph, unable to accept Her blessed pregnancy, She thought that it is better to abandon Herself to Divine Providence in full confidence that God Himself will defend Her innocence and reputation.  Again She showed Her confidence in God and obliged to give birth to Her Child in a stable and laid Him in a manger by placing Her confidence in God believing that He would assist her.

We see over and again in the Gospels her trust in God during the flight to Egypt to escape from Herod that God would protect her Son.  Let us learn from Mary to have that kind of confidence in God.  For this, we must distrust our own strength and co-operate with God.

ACT OF THE DAY
Through the intercession of Mother Mary, let us offer a Holy Rosary to obtain and follow Her Virtues in our life.

With love filled blessings

MOTHER’S LOVE

O! Queen of the Universe, we your precious devotees take great delight in the festive celebrations of the heavenly assembly and extend bouquet of greetings. Happy Birthday to You Dear Blessed Mother!

Mary unto God’s will was obedient
Holy Spirits’ glow on her face radiant;
As a virgin she accepted to be a mother
Surrendered herself for entry of Savior

She accepted sheer poverty of life
The daily troubles and the strife;

She nurtured the Redeemer of the world
Numerous sorrows of her life untold!
Her requests and orders He never did shun
Although the Savior He was her Son.

At Cana it was the Mother’s request
Which saved the family’s respect!

Throughout His life, She was the inspiration
Always giving guidance and motherly protection;
Till the Cross of Calvary She was at His side;
Her feeble legs strengthening His every stride.

She was the one to whom He entrusted
His disciples who were His beloved.

Initially His, she became the world’s Mother;
Her honor accompanies Christ faith forever
Mother Mary helps us seek our Savior;
Her intercession helps us reach our Redeemer.

MOTHER OF SORROWS

The Holy Bible says, “….and angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph said, “Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him.”  (Matt 2:13)

Let us take this as an excellent time to meditate on the necessity of suffering in a Christian life. . “Since we are His children, we will possess the blessings He keeps for His people, and we will also possess with Christ, what God has kept for Him; for if we share Christ’s suffering we will also share His glory.”(Rom 8:17).
After we experience the sorrow of Good Friday we rejoice in the everlasting joy of Easter, the day our Lord conquered death!  The scriptures testify that many people suffered for the sake of God to realize that our sufferings in whatever manner is not in vain but should be offered to God as a sacrifice as Jesus Himself did.  St. Peter explains very well, “For to this you have been called because Christ also suffered for you leaving you an example so that you might follow in His steps.”  (1 Peter 2:21)
The letter from James also clearly says, “My brothers, remember the prophets who spoke in the name of the Lord.  Take them as an example of patient endurance under suffering.”  (James 5:10)
It is important to identify the nature of suffering to appreciate and understand the Gospel.  This is not a hopeless suffering. It is true that under the immense stress of the suffering some would even ask “Why only me?” or complain to God, “Ever since I was young I have suffered and been near death.”  (Psalms)  Lord Jesus also cried out, “My God, my God why did you abandon Me?” (Matt. 27:46)  Though they put up a question to God, they also realized that suffering produces endurance.
The Lord has not forgotten to forecast about suffering.  “I am telling the truth you will cry and weep, but the world will be glad; you will be sad; but your sadness will turn into gladness.”  (John 16:20)
Since suffering is mingled in His promise, it is wise to pause and think why we suffer while some others who do not follow the Lord flourish and seem to be full of joy.  Yes it is a reasonable question.  But if you think too deeply you will realize that such joys apart from God are temporal in nature.
For example, the parable of rich man who flourished while the poor Lazarus perished. Lazarus died and was carried by the angels to sit beside Abraham at the feast in heaven.  The rich man died and was buried and in Hades where he was in great pain.  (Refer to Luke 16)
Let us turn our attention to our beloved Mother whose life here on earth was full of anguish and sorrow.
While the presentation of her son Jesus in the temple, Simeon a good God fearing man who was lead by the Spirit went into the temple and blessed the child and said to His mother, “…..and sorrow like a sharp sword, will break your own heart.”  (Luke 2:35)
Then the angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph and said, “….and angel of the Lord appeared in a dream to Joseph said, “Herod will be looking for the child in order to kill him. Take the child and his mother and escape to Egypt” (Matt 2 : 13).
Here the fear of enemy, anxiety and pain of journey struck like a sharp sword pierced her heart.
Again when Jesus was twelve years old after the festival, the parents left the temple and Jesus stayed back.  After they traveled one whole day, they recognized the child was not with them.  Here again the mother’s anxiety, fear, and guilt like a sharp sword pierced her heart.
When Lord Jesus was condemned to death, the persecutions which Her Son received reminded her again the words of Simeon.  The anguish and love with which she did stood at the cross of Jesus, as well as the last three hours while she strengthened her son, even her heart was pierced over and again, wasn’t she interceding to the Almighty Father for the atonement of the sins of the world.

The Most Holy and afflicted Virgin, standing beneath the Cross of Her sinless and righteous Son who became a victim of cursed death and there again sorrow like a sharp sword pierced her heart.
When the lifeless body of Her Son was laid in Her arms there the moments when all the events right from the day of annunciation till Calvary was reflected as in a mirror.  In silence of Her Holy Saturday’s praise that God expects from humanity, prior to revealing His glory.  Our Mother is a Goddess of grief and sorrows, and God is a God of pain.  When we approach Her or Him remember She freely placed herself in total harmony, fully co-operating with the life and action of her son.  So through Her help, let us offer our gaze, heart, thoughts, feelings, desires and aspirations to her son Jesus for the future glory of God our Father.

Let us join our hands
O! Mother of Mercy, who having so deeply drunk of the chalice of your son can compassionate the sorrows of those who still sigh in the land of exile.  O! Holy Mary, whose soul was pierced by a sword of sorrow, intercedes for us to have a graceful heart like unto Thine which can steadily follow your Son. O! Mary, Landlady of KLWC spread ahead heavenly blessings all over the world before the work of wicked enemy.  Mother of Sorrows save the departed souls in purgatory and comfort their loved ones. AMEN!

BLOSSOM OF OBEDIENCE

The Holy Bible says, “Not everyone who calls me  ‘Lord , Lord ‘ will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do what My Father in Heaven wants them to do.” (Matthew 7:21)

We can express our devotion to Mother Mary by following and obeying her virtues. She has been endowed with the first and foremost rank  of discipleship as  well as the revival spirit and also holds the crown of a perfect intercessor and a generous giver to those who take recourse in her. She resembles the image of hope and gladdens her devotees while her deepest sorrows and sheer poverty consoles those who invoke her.
The eternal gladness on her face grants us great comfort and a perpetual health of soul and body.  Her humility and sadly sweet looks penetrate deep into our hearts and create the fruit of repentance.  She draws our attention to the teachings of her Son.
Mary has a valuable role in keeping the church still stainless, pure and perfect.  She fervently intercedes for her devotees who are under the spiritual warfare to achieve holiness. When we look at the image of Mary who is the vessel of true knowledge and other virtues, it resembles the entire life of Jesus Christ who is our Life.
“I am the Lord’s servant” said Mary. “May it happen to me as you have said.”  Her Submissiveness towards the will of God is feel-able.  Though she knew the pain and agony she has to witness as well as bear, yet she honored God by saying, ‘Yes’ to the angel.
She silently speaks to us to apply this virtue in our life.  She prepared herself joyfully to accept a humble life with all its poverty and hardships.  In every trial she might have acknowledged and recited the vows that were said by the angel which strengthened her to overcome her struggles along with the blessings.
So also if we remember and recite the vows and the reward the Master promised, it enables us to bear our burdens and to endure unexpected events.  Call out to our Mother faithfully in times of necessities. She will console and cover you with her solace.
Once Lord Jesus proclaimed the reality of His Mother’s glory and reverence. “Whoever does what my Father in Heaven wants him to do is my brother, sister, mother.”
The Son of Mary gloriously honors His Blessed Mother knowing that she is the first one not only to obey and accept but also to carry the Word of God in her womb.
Isn’t our humble mother worthy of devotion and praises?
Here Lord Jesus also opens our heart towards a new knowledge and relation on how to become a member of His family. Alleluia!
So if you have difficulty in studying the Holy Bible or to understand the truth, here is our Mother who studied all the laws of God and practices giving high reverence to God from childhood amidst adversities.  She is the girl who lived ritually in synagogue under the care of many other old ladies who were thorough with the knowledge of God’s laws and observed it diligently.  If you go to Our Mother, she is ready to help in your miseries and the various needs of your life.
Mother Mary was well aware of family life as she spent her days and years in Nazareth.  She who looked after the members of family, you can seek her intercession for the welfare of your family.  Under her care your family will be united by love, respect for one another, carrying out the mission each one has in freedom, expressing and sharing their emotions with one another.
Lord Jesus says, “Not everyone who calls me Lord! Lord! Will enter the Kingdom of Heaven, but only those who do what my Father in Heaven wants them to do.”  (Matt 7:21)
As Lord Jesus and Blessed Virgin Mary humbled themselves to the will of God, she insists us to be obedient to God in all circumstances.  By getting the true knowledge of Divine plan of salvation, through the help of Mary, it helps us to lead our life more truthfully and willingly.  The Savior of the world humbled Himself and obeyed the will of His mother is another exemplary event which should be practiced by us to gain tranquility.
During the wedding of Cana at the scarcity of wine Mother approached Her Son and fulfilled their needs.  Though He knew that His time to be glorified had  not yet come, yet the voice of His Mother made Him to obey her.  Through this performance He revealed His glory and His disciples believed in Him.  So whoever is willing to obey his parents, elders, life partners, etc. and give respect to each other, it pleases God and He will abide in them.
She is the model of fortitude, which stood firm in the face of adversities by seeing the apparent harshness of reality through eyes fixed on the liberating horizon of eternity.  Dear devotees, she supplies the gift of fortitude in your difficult moments.  Devotion to Mary obtains the grace to partake in the trials of a needy one and makes us worthy to grow in grace and to rejoice in her consolation.
Let’s come to the conclusion by notifying that from Jesus and Mary the virtue of obedience flows to the disciples and they were also crowned with the honor of Heavenly Father.
“Jesus saw His mother and disciples standing close to His cross, He said to His mother, “Here is your son.”  Then he said to the disciple, “She is your mother”.  From that time the disciples took her to live in his home.”(John 19: 26-27)

Let’s join our hands
O! Tender Mother, thank you for the countless blessings you have been showering throughout my life.  Mother of devotees, grant us the special protection once again to those you have promised. O! Humble servant of the Lord you were made the Glorious Mother of God’s Son because you listened to His words and practiced it.  Make me an earnest hearer and doer of God’s law.  May my faith consist of not only saying, ‘Lord! Lord!’ but confirming my life to His word and His will.  Grant me a fruitful life here on earth and after the exile show unto me the blessed fruit of your womb Jesus. Amen.

MOST BLESSED CREATION

But when the right time finally came, God sent His own Son. He came as the Son of a human mother and lived under the Jewish Law. (Galatians 4:4)

Holy Spirit is the center- point and the way to salvation and the work of the Spirit is evident throughout God’s plan for Salvation. Mother Mary is also given an equal role in it and the Almighty God has performed and still continue even today to do mighty things through her. The same will be through all ages to come.

Let us read through the Biblical teachings to get more knowledge on the importance of honoring our Mother:

Gabriel, an angel of God is first to praise Mother Mary.
“The angel came to her and said, ‘Peace be with you! The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you!’ (Luke 1:28)

Reading further, we see Elizabeth in one breath joyfully praising Mother Mary and the child in her womb because He will be the Savior.
“Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and said in a loud voice, ‘You are the most Blessed of all women, and blessed is the child you will bear!’ (Luke 1:42)

The above verses teach us that Mother Mary is worthy recipient of all praises.
When you accept Jesus as your Savior, it is impossible to not acknowledge the presence of His mother. Our love and gratefulness towards Her arises when we truly learn the plan of God’s Salvation and her important role in it.

Praise and adoration are different. We are to Worship only Lord the God, the Creator of Heaven and Earth and whenever we praise His creation we are Glorifying the Creator.

Mother Mary is a creation of the Mighty Creator and thus the words praise and  reverence fits in here. By praise we indicate the expressions of acceptance, appreciation and admiration. Through our appreciation of the goodness of Mother Mary, we are glorifying the plan of God of Glory. She is the masterpiece of the Lord’s grace and God permits His devotees to praise Her.

“For He has remembered Me, His lowly servant! From now on all people will call Me happy because of the great things the Mighty God has done for Me.” (Luke 1: 48-49)

So dear devotees, it is impossible that you believe in the Holy Trinity and yet hesitate to acknowledge and give Mother Mary the honor, praise and gratitude that she truly deserves.

A PRAYER TO OUR MOTHER

St. Anne, We exalt garlands of thanks to your compassionate and obedient Heart which made you to submit your only daughter to God, who made Her a vessel for Human Salvation.

O St. Anne, who by the extraordinary virtue and holiness did merit from God the high favor of Giving Life to Mary who is the treasury of all graces and the Mother of Word Incarnation!
St. Anne, O most happy Mother, the praises of the Word of God brought the light of Eternal Hope to the World.

Mary the Most High Name after Jesus the Name of all names. Heaven and earth rejoice in the naming ceremony of Mary. The parents brought her up devotedly and lovingly with the fear of God. In childhood itself, Mary was enveloped with immense God’s Love.

God blesses a couple with the gift of a child to give them proper spiritual knowledge and to surrender them to God for His purpose. Children must give good exercises by parents to become the prestige of their family and a lamp to the society.

Mary was the only daughter of her parents in their sunset life, yet, they joyfully offered Mary to God as they had promised, moving our hearts towards their selfless and pious nature. She too surrendered herself perfectly with an obedient heart that made God to choose her for His plan of Salvation.

O Immaculate Mary as you have submitted your childhood and life for God prayerfully expecting the coming of the Savior, Here we mothers lay our children unto your feet.  On this special occasion train them as how you were trained to love and obey God and His command. !

Here we mothers lay our  life to St. Anne owner of generous, gracious heart  so that we may get great courage to consecrate our children to your daughter faithfully  forever. We are assured that they will feel confident and secure in her arms. Her maternal aid covers them with warmness and tenderness.
Teach them we pray to accept the joy and woes which appear together in their life so that they may enjoy their little happiness and endure pain in union her Son.

O mother Mary, obtain grace to our children to be strong to reject sin and they may understand that
Jesus is the safe and certain way to the smiling embrace to the Father.

Yes Mamma, as you ran to Elizabeth , your cousin in your happiness, gift us also the openness towards mutual sharing.
You who taught us that sharing one’s happiness and love are the reality to be spread by deeds and words. We, Universe rejoice in you forever.

Let us once again bow our head to God the Father and worship with a great gratitude who gave blessed Mother Mary the protection of Heaven and Earth from heresy.

ASSUMPTION OF BLESSED VIRGIN MARY

“Blessed is she who trusted that the Lord’s words to her would be fulfilled.”    (Luke 1:45)

Assumption of our Lady is a celebration emphasizing Mary’s resurrection and the exaltation of her body and soul to share in her Son’s glory.

From the moment of her conception, Mother Mary was free of sins.  Archangel Gabriel recognized her as “full of grace”  “blessed among women” and “one with the Lord”!

Blessed Virgin Mary was conceived pure in body in order to carry the Son of God in her womb.

St. Gregory, the Great said that the heart of   St. Benedict expanded so much that all creation could enter it!! This is true for Mother Mary; Our Mother totally united with the Lord, has a heart so big that all creation can enter. Our Mother is awaiting us, to intercede for our sins, and attain us to heavenly glory. She is our Mother; she wishes all of us to be saved.

Mother Mary is very unique. Not only because she was born without original sin. Even Eve and Adam were born free of sin, but it didn’t stop them from sinning as soon as they had a chance!!  Mother Mary instead chose with help of God’s Grace to preserve her God given purity throughout the whole of her holy life.

Mother Mary’s Assumption completed God’s work in her since it was not fitting that the flesh that had given life to Jesus, God’s only son, should ever undergo worldly death.

Assumption is God’s crowning of His work as Mother Mary ends her earthly life and enters eternity.

Mother Mary, help me to be obedient to God’s will just as you surrendered yourself completely to thy divine plan.
Mother Mary, pray for us sinners!
