CHRISTEN SECTION

DOMINIC SAVIO - A YOUNG SAINT

Dear young readers, I pray and hope that regular reading of the Word of God is crushing each thorn of negativity in your life and you are doing well as God’s young warrior.  As per requests from young readers, would like to mention an inspirational life of a young adolescent with a mature spirituality-a doting son, a true friend and a saint; and the same would be penned by a member of our team.

*************************************************************
Born on 2nd April 1842 in Italy to poor, hardworking and pious parents Dominic Savio had a deep reverence and extraordinary love for God. Lessons to love God, never to displease or offend Him and to be aware of self actions were inculcated in him. By the age of four, he could pray on his own and would be regular in prayers.  Once at the age of four this young child when missing and his mother hastily went in search of Him. He was found in the woods, all knelt up with eyes closed reciting His prayers by heart. He was punctual in Christian duties towards attending the Holy Mass. Due to his dedication and habitual devotional he was eligible to accept the Sacrament of Holy Communion at the age of seven (twelve was the age considered fit during those days).  It is well recorded that Dominic Savio was well aware of the purity that belonged to Sacrament and he prepared days in advance in prayers and asking forgiveness to his parents for any failure towards his duties. From this day he made some firm resolutions:

1.      I will go to confessions and receive the Holy Communion as advised by the priest
2.     To observe Sundays and religious festivals in a special manner
3.     Lord Jesus and Mother Mary will be my friends
4.    I prefer death than sin

He studied hard and would walk for miles to reach school daily. If anyone would ask him, if he feared the dark and dusty road, He would reply, “I am never alone, my guardian angels walks and protects me.” Such was the remarkable faith this young man had. This long walks in the due course took a toll on health and for secondary education his parents decided to shift him to the nearby village to be closer to school.

There are various instances that indicate how Dominic Savio was a true friend and wanted his friends to be always in line with piety and awareness of God. As boys of his age he too would participate in games. When two boys had a severe argument they decided to settle it with a fight. When Dominic Savio heard about it he rushed to the spot with a Holy crucifix, to the place where the fight was to take place.standing between the groups with the Holy Crucifix, requesting that they throw the first stones at him. “Christ, who was innocent, died for us rather than seek revenge from those who hated him." Ashamed of their act, the two boys gave up their fight and our young saint persuaded them to go for the Sacrament of confession. Just as his name ‘Savio’ meaning wise- he was gifted with wisdom and control over his emotions from a tender age.

The meeting with his spiritual mentor, St. John Bosco was a turning point in his life. His school was situated in John Bosco’s native village and it was a custom that the priest would visit his hometown in the month of October. Dominic’s teacher at school had remarked in high regard about this young boy to John Bosco. A meeting was arranged. Now John Bosco was a Roman Catholic priest who had dedicated his life to the betterment and education of street children, juvenile delinquent and other disadvantaged youth. He developed teaching methods based on love rather than punishment,

After initial greetings and a series of conversation, Dominic Savio bluntly asked the priest, how he had found him to be? While the priest answered that to him Dominic Savio looked a good material. Savio then replied, “Then take me with you, Father. You can be the tailor, and I'll be the cloth. Make me into a beautiful garment for Our Lord." This meeting was the beginning of their relationship, the result of which was that John Bosco agreed to take Dominic to Turin with him.Arriving at Turin, Dominic Savio placed himself under his mentor’s guidance. He enthusiastically followed the rules, listened to sermons and was obedient to his teachers. He once happened to listen to a talk on sainthood and these three points impressed him:
1.      That it is God’s will that every one becomes a saint.
2.     That it is easy to become a saint.
3.     That there is a great reward waiting in heaven for those who try to become a saint.
When he learnt that ‘Dominic’ meant ‘belonging to God’, the flame to attain sainthood increased and he began to do intense penances. It was St. John Bosco who forbade him and instead told him that as a school boy the best penance would be to do all his responsibilities with perfection humility and obedience. Thus this formed the philosophy of his life, “I can't do big things but I want everything to be for the glory of God.".

His devotion to Mother Mary was ignited under His mentor’s guidance.

Steadily failing health and severe cough forced Savio to be sent home to recover for few days. Though Dominic insisted that he wanted to spend his last few days at the Oratory his mentor decided to follow the doctor’s recommendation. Despite his affection and his wish John Bosco sent Dominic home with his father to recuperate. Four days at his home and he knew his end was near. As tutored by his mentor, he received his last sacraments and asked his father to recite prayers for a happy death. Then he slept off and after a short while awoke bidding good bye to his dad, “"Goodbye, Dad, goodbye . . . . . Oh, what wonderful things I see ...".

To those around him initially appeared as though he was in a deep sleep but then the truth struck that Dominic Savio had passed away at a tender age of 14. To his father who was deeply distressed and wanted to know where his son was in the other world, he appeared to his father in a dream a month after he passed away in the midst of dazzling light. He spoke to his dad saying “I am in heaven.” His father requested him to pray for his family members. “Yes, I will pray” was the answer.

Let us pray:
Almighty and Heavenly Father we praise you through St. Dominic Savio. Fill our hearts with heavenly wisdom and fear of God. Grant us the strength to resist all temptations and impurities. Fill us with Holy love for you and all. Raise us to perfection to the state of life to which we have been called. Through your powerful intercession we surrender the entire youth.
Almighty God, may your kingdom come, may your holy will be done.
St. Dominic Savio, pray for us! Amen

May the Lord bless you and take care of you. May He be kind and gracious to you. May the Lord look on you with favor and give you peace.

With love filled blessings,

Your Sister in Christ

ARC OF PRAISE
PART 1

The Bible says, “Come, let us praise the Lord! Let us sing for joy to God, who protects us! Let us come before Him with thanksgiving and sing joyful songs of praise. For the Lord is a mighty God, a mighty king over all the gods.” (Psalms 95: 1-3)

Communication is an interesting daily activity in which we all are involved. It can well be defined as a pleasant and powerful mode of experience which helps us to express ourselves in this world. Majority of us greet, send wishes, appreciate and share our experiences with this tool. It also helps us in breaking, as well as rebuilding and maintaining our relations.

Thanks be to God for all these skills and latest gateways for easy communication.

How often do you appreciate and communicate with God? Wisdom to communicate with God is easily available.

Faithful people who practice a life of praise to God, who are joyful and awake, are spread over the entire face of the earth.

Lord is pleased with the communication of human lips and through this we get closer in our relationship with God.
St. Paul says, “Let us then always offer praise to God as our sacrifice through lips and confess Him as Lord. You are a chosen race, the king priest, the holy nation, God’s own people to proclaim the wonderful acts of God.”(Heb. 13:15)

Therefore His devotees use their talents and strength to praise and rejoice in Him.  Those who stay on this swing of freedom gets transformed and immersed in to God’s will entirely and those who remain in God’s presence gain the ability to know many spiritual realities. Few among such is, that, sorrows, sickness, sudden misfortune and other troubles of life are not tragedy but mere instances to receive more power from God to achieve victory. Once you realize this truth, you will praise Lord willingly in all occasions of life.

King David says, “Use all your talents and praise God because He is greater than them all. Use all your strength to glorify Him, for it will yet be insufficient to describe His magnificence.”

Every Saturday during our prayer service there was this separate section dedicated to children under the age of 12. The innocent praises and prayers they offer to the Lord were indeed attractive. Lord Jesus would descend amidst them, at that moment and shower flowers of blessing. These buds were transformed before the flower of Sorrow blossoms. It imparts light and warmth to the little brains. Circumstantially, they have become ‘Children of Holy Spirit.’

Without hesitation, these children practiced it and gained fruitful experiences. It helped them to outreach and lead their friends to the Lord!

May God protect and bless them wherever and however they are!
Here I am inspired to share few testimonies of those children who learned the skill of praising the Lord:
·        I used to praise Lord along with my mother to deliver my dad from alcoholism. Today my Lord Jesus has delivered my dad. Thank You My Jesus.
·        I found it difficult to write capital ‘I’ and ‘J’. After praising Lord Jesus, the confusion left me. Today I can write them properly. Thank You Jesus
·        When my brother and I were playing, his spectacles fell down. I prayed and praised aloud and his spectacles were saved from breaking. I thank you Jesus.
·        I used to get stomach ache during exam and I praised Lord Jesus. My pain vanished and I could write correct answers for all the questions.
·        My uncle in gulf met with an accident due to which his backbone was damaged. Every Saturday we took part in the service and I praised Lord Jesus. Miraculously, my uncle received fast healing and is back to job again. Praise the Lord!
·        My dad’s leg was fractured and was plastered. I sat near my dad and praised Lord Jesus. Then my dad’s pain decreased and he was happy.
·        After I started attending the prayer, I enjoy singing hymns along with the choir. Through this prayer I came to know Jesus performs miracles even now. I enjoy reading the Holy Bible and praying to Jesus. I used to fall ill frequently but now my Lord protects me from sickness. Praise the Lord!  I thank Lord through this section Jesus helped me to know Him at such a young age. Glory to God!
·        After attending the prayer and joining Christen section, I got the grace to share my things with my friends and obey my parents and reduce watching TV. I thank my Lord Jesus everyday in my life. Praise the Lord!
·        As I praised and prayed to the Lord in the cricket match which I was about to lose, Lord guaranteed me victory and glorified me. Thank You Jesus
·        When I forgot an answer during my exam, I praised my Jesus immediately revealed the answer to my memory. Similarly, I had severe stomach ache on my First Holy Communion day, and as I received the Body of Christ, my stomach ache also disappeared. I thank you Jesus!! I praise you Jesus!!
·        When I praised Lord Jesus for my brother who used to always fail in exams, he passed and thus my family became happy and blessed.
·        When we went for picnic my friends left me alone. I got afraid. In my sorrow and fear I praised God and another group invited me to join them. Thus Lord accompanied me to enjoy my picnic.
·        When my daddy lost his job, I began to praise and pray daily with my mummy. Soon he got a better job abroad. Thank you Jesus!!
·        I praised and prayed to Jesus, when my neighbor was seriously ill. Lord provided him with a better treatment and healed him. Thank you Jesus!!
·        In school, one of my classmate got severe toothache. We all together praised Jesus Christ and she was relieved from pain. We were made glad. Thank you Jesus!
“Some people brought their children to Jesus but the disciples refused them. When Jesus noticed this He said, ‘Let the children come to Me, and do not stop them, because the Kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I assure you that whoever does not receive the Kingdom of God like a child will never enter it.’ Then he took the children in his arms, placed His hands on each of them, and blessed them.”  (Mark 10:13)  Amen!!!!

GOSPEL OF ST.JOHN

“Pay attention to what I say, my son. Listen to my words. Never let them get away from you. Remember them and keep them in your heart. They will give life and health to anyone who understands them.”
(Prov. 4:20-22)

JESUS THE WAY TO THE FATHER

“Do not be worried and upset,” Jesus told them. “Believe in God and believe also in Me. There are many rooms in my Father’s house, and I am going to prepare a place for you. I would not tell you this if it were not so. And after I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to myself, so that you will be where I am. You know the way that leads to the place where I am going.”

Thomas said to Him, “Lord, we do not know where You are going; so how can we know the way to get there?”

Jesus answered him, “I am the way, the truth and the life; no one goes to the Father except by me. Now that you have known me,” He said to them, “you will know my Father also, from now on you do know Him and you have seen Him.”

Philip said to Him, “Lord, show us the Father; that is all we need.”

Jesus answered, “For a long time I have been with you all; yet You do not know Me, Philip? Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. Why then, do you say, ‘Show us the Father?’ Do you not believe, Philip that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I have spoken to you,” Jesus said to His disciples, “do not come from me. The Father, who remains in me, does His own work.

Believe Me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in Me. If not, believe because of the things I do—yes, He will do even greater things , because I am going to the Father.  And I will do whatever you ask for in My name, so that the Father’s glory will be shown through the Son. If you ask me for anything in My Name, I will do it.” (John 14: 1-14)

This is the Word of the Lord

Thanks be to Lord Jesus Christ! Amen
