SPIRITUAL AWAKENESS

Then Samuel took a stone, set it up between Mizpah and Shen, and said, “The Lord has helped us all the way” and he named it ‘Stone of Help’.”  (1 Samuel 7: 12)

The parents of Samuel, old Hannah and Elkanah, dedicated their only son in God’s service as per their promise to God. When Samuel reigned, the Israelites when attacked by the Philistines, cried to him for help and he instructed them as, “if you are going to turn to the LORD with all your hearts, you must get rid of all the foreign gods and images of the goddess..Dedicate yourself completely to the LORD and worship only Him, then He will rescue you from the power of the Philistines.”  The people agreed to his order and gathered at Mizpah according to Samuel’s command. They drew some water and poured it out as an offering to the LORD and fasted, offering themselves that whole day confessing, “We have sinned against the LORD.” The Philistines consisting of their five kings, on hearing their enemy gathered at Mizpah set forth to attack them with their armies.  As Samuel and Israelites were offering the sacrifice to the Almighty God,  thundered from heaven against their enemy, sending them into panic and confusion; while the Israelites marched from Mizpah to Shen. Thus Mighty Lord rescued His people. In memory of God’s protection, Samuel took a stone and placed it between Mizpah and Shen, calling it the ‘Stone of Help’.

Dear ones in Christ, this passage reminds you to treasure certain old memories of your life which God your defender has done for you. In His mercy, God has bestowed numerous instances that we ought to regurgitate and be grateful for. Many times you might have tasted the bitterness of life  with roaring waves, stormy dark days engulfed in despair and fear, days overlaid in sickness, poverty, debts, loneliness with no one to extend a finger or a word of comfort yet your God led you to cross such rivers of life. Through those moments were bitter, yet He did not forget to add a spoonful of glucose that refreshed you in your tiredness and made you come out stronger; carrying you till date. All glory and honour to Him! Let us gratefully say a halleluiah! Close your eyes and meditate how good is your God. Have you done anything precious in memory to treasure God’s constant care? Share it with your beloved family and who knows, you might as well lead someone to God. Introduce this blog to those in need of spiritual encounter. Meditate and you will come to the conclusion how those bitter cups have turned into sweet, flavoured delicious experiences to grow in Him.

Another wonderful successor of Moses was Joshua. His experience will strengthen you to a greater extent. His past memorial days when he walked with Moses influenced him and infused in him confidence and determination to lead the people according to God’s will. When it was time to cross the  river Jordan, he reminisced the miracle of the Dead Sea; and confidently assured his people. In tune with the command from the Sovereign Lord, Joshua comforted the priests who carried the Covenant Box, “Put your feet in the water, Jordan will stop flowing and downstream will pile up in one place. The priests must stand on the dry ground in the middle of Jordan until everyone crossed over.” When the whole nation had crossed Lord said to Joshua, “Choose twelve men, one from each tribe and command them to take twelve stones out of the middle of Jordan where the priests stood. Take these stones to the place where you will camp tonight. These stones will be a reminder in future of what the Lord has done.”              

Beloved parents, take some time out to recollect the hardships, brokenness and temptations you and your ancestors had to overcome. Your forefathers had crossed Red Sea by faith in the Living God who abides with them. Similar to Joshua, who remembered his young days and recalled how God used Moses, a perfect vessel; God proves time and again that He is our trust worthy father, who insists to be honoured. Sharing your life’s Red Sea experiences will enable  and assure our children  to cross their River of Jordan  confidently and courageously. They will declare, “My parents courageously crossed the Red Sea with Loving God, so can I too cross my river of Jordan, because the God of Moses and Joshua, who was with my parents, is with me today and all through my life.”  Join together and say a rejoicing Halleluiah!

Nothing was possible for you, if not those incidents were lead by your Father in Heaven who kept you safe and guarded you till date. Let us hope that He will secure your family and the land in His mercy through the Wounded Hands of Lord Jesus.    

                                                                                         

He says to one and all, “Do not be afraid – I am with you!

I am your God – let nothing terrify you!  I will make you strong and help you; I will protect you and save you.”  (Isaiah 41:10)

May you be of any caste, creed, any tribe, orphan, disabled child, young or old; sick, lonely, compressed with deadly forces, planning to end life due to darkness of troubles; remember the proclamation of His entry to the world, “People who live in darkness will see a great light, the light will shine on who live in the dark land of death.”  (Matthew 4) .Let us fix our gaze upon Him.

He, the Almighty, Supreme Power and Perfect Light may open your mind and eyes to the goodness of His wonderworks. Even if you walk in the dark valleys, He, the Light of the World, can illuminate your path and turn it positive, leading you to the truth. In the midst of your deadly disease, where there is no other way to cross, turn towards the Word of God, that can steer you to positivity and guide you confidently. Trust His promises! May the Almighty God through the Power of His Passion and Cross of His Beloved Son Jesus, purify your past memories, strengthening you to confess to your family to be never discouraged, for the Lord your God will be with you wherever you go.

In His constant love, He will be merciful to you. In His great mercy, He will wipe your sins and wash away all evil.

By dying, Lord Jesus destroyed our death.

By rising, Lord Jesus restored our life.

Lord Jesus, we welcome you in our families, in your Mercy and Glory!

LENTEN MESSAGE

A GREAT FALL AHEAD

The Lord said, “Earth and sky, listen to what I am saying! The children I brought up have rebelled against Me.” (Isaiah 1:2)

PART ONE

The crowd followed Jesus and some Pharisees on account of various questions, approached; in order to succeed in entrapping Him, asking, “Does our Law allow a man to divorce his wife for whatever reason he wishes?”

Jesus replied, “In the beginning the Creator made people male and female. And God said, ‘For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and unite with his wife; and the two will become one.’ So they are no longer two but one. Man must not separate, then, what God has joined together.” Jesus snapped the trap, but they persisted, asking, “How did Moses, then, allow divorce?” He responded, “Moses gave you permission because you are hard to teach.” He continued further warning them, “I tell you, then, that any man who divorces his wife for any cause other than her unfaithfulness, commits adultery if he marries some other woman.”

A family adorns the earth to a heaven. God made family and He is seated among them.  When Sovereign God dwells among them, family life is the most graceful and easily manageable status. The first couple transformed the Garden of Eden into a paradise, as long as they obeyed God. A couple must be enveloped in gracefulness that arises with agreeing with God, over and above, their individualistic nature and desire. God created Eve, to complete the incomplete Adam. It was when their personal desires arose they began to blame each other, got enslaved themselves to fear, pride  and other such malice. All this happened when they refused God and when His Everlasting Grace departed from them. Till then what was a blessed family life with its beautiful responsibilities; when they began to prioritise themselves over God, everything tumbled down to be a burden, turning it into a workshop of the devil. With the veil of God’s grace removed from them, the couple soon ousted from the paradise to step into a world filled with tragedy and adversities.

During Annunciation, the grace emitted from Mary, the Mother of Jesus is remarkable. The angel said to her, “The Lord is with you and has greatly blessed you.” (Luke 1:28) God chose her as the Mistress of the Holy Family and Joseph, a righteous man as the Head of the Family. This is the reason why a young man and woman are required to enroll in prenuptial courses and counselling that can transform them into mature individuals; capable enough to take up the duties of a husband and wife. These widely available courses prepare them to the responsibilities of this holy sacrament of matrimony and family relations. Your life on this holy land consists of many relations; each bringing its own set of responsibilities. It is foremost important to develop a relationship with God and communion with the heavenly beings, because we belong there; and is to return there after this short pilgrimage to be united with them. Their guidance will be a light in your life. A life in unity with ancestors, parents, relatives are also significant to expect a harmonious and peaceful existence. How can one expect harmonization in their marital life, pushing away and rejecting parents? It is not acceptable to God that you neglect parents for your convenience. They spent a good amount of their life sacrificing in terms of health, time, and wealth; painstakingly to care and settle you well. The pain others take for you is a sacrifice. Lord Jesus suffered for your pain; offering it all as a sacrifice. So whoever breaks the chord of relationships by denying their duty are inviting a crack or fall in his own life. Try not to hurt anyone unrighteous. The gravity of pain that you dish out to others is measured by the Sovereign God; He has not made it permissible to anyone to hurt or pain anyone. Parents, holding the position of the invisible God; ought to ensure they are careful not to hurt their children. It is easy to say, but it calls for right amount of endurance to put it into practice as it is a hereditary trait.  A drop of tear arising from a deeply hurt person is sufficient to break your family. Each one should safeguard every relation, considering it pure and holy. The Holy Bible says, “Happy are those who work for peace, God will call them His children!” (Matthew 5:9)

All your ancestors, relatives, parents, neighbours including all living beings are part of one family because we exist from the One and Only Creator. Accept all and everyone in His Name, love and console them.  Bear in mind, that today or tomorrow I have to leave this world and face my Creator; there I will be accounted for every tears shed because of me, especially my life partner, children, parents etc. These thoughts will transform you to a righteous and happy individual. Challenge yourself to take a decision to bury the old defiled nature and to refrain from it. Parents are not the creator of children; they are only the family line to continue God’s creation.

Dear Readers in Christ, your heart though feeble and wavering, yearns to come out of all these malice. Your desire to be a new person can only be fulfilled by the mercy and grace sprinkled by the Magnificent God. Only He can release you from the traps of those childhood incidents that outgrow you over the years leading to greater sins. If you have covered up your guiltiness, thinking no one is there to witness your cruel deeds; then you are mistaken. For the Holy Bible says, “The eyes of the Lord are ten thousand times brighter than the sun.” (Sirach 23:19) He witnesses your darkest deeds. Last but not the least heaven and earth are witness of every deed of each human being.

THE TRANSFIGURATION

Six days later, Jesus took with Him, Peter and the brothers James and John and led them up a high mountain where they were alone.  As they looked on, a change came over Jesus; His face was shining like the sun, and His clothes were dazzling white.  Then the three disciples saw Moses and Elijah talking with Jesus.  So Peter spoke up and said to Jesus, “Lord, how good it is that we are here!  If you wish, I will make three tents here, one for you, one for Moses, and one for Elijah”

While he was talking, a shining cloud came over them, and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my own dear Son, with whom I am pleased – listen to Him!” 

When the disciples heard the voice they were so terrified, they threw themselves face downwards on the ground.  Jesus came to them and touched them, “Get up,” He said, “Don’t be afraid.”  So they looked up and saw no one there but Jesus.

As they came down the mountain, Jesus ordered them, “Don’t tell anyone about this vision you have seen until the Son of Man has been raised from death.”

GOD OF LIGHT

The Holy Bible says, “You Lord, are my light. You dispel my darkness (2 Samuel.22:2)

Continued from the earlier part

A follower or devotee of Christ enlightens others by his good works; leading them out from the deepest valley of darkness by a tiny drop of light. Take for instance a ray of light passing through a small hole in a dark room; it highlights the dust particles in the atmosphere. Similarly, the rays of God’s radiant light can discern even the minute defect of our lives. Those who practice sorcery or other dark activities will surely find it hard to accept God’s light as they are enslaved to their darkened master.  When you are constantly in God’s presence reading and memorizing the Holy Word of God, praying, praising and acknowledging His Promises; His power overwhelms you and His Light tends to brighten your day ; making you refreshed. Continuously confess: Jesus, my Lord and Light of my life; this will assist you in chasing the unknown sorrows, fear, anxiety, confusions, anger etc. Allow God’s Light to penetrate through the darkness of every nook and corner of your life and you will witness Sovereign God’s victory over it. Absolutely nothing can overpower the Heavenly Light of our Lord and His grace can walk you through and lead if you truly believe and make an effort for it. The Holy Bible says, “Wake up sleeper and arise from death, Christ will shine on you.” (Ephesians 5:14) This is the only Light that can bring out in you a rich harvest filled with every kind of goodness, righteous and truth. So let us live in hope like people belonging to the light and bring others too out to share in it.

John the Baptist knew that Jesus Christ was the divine light sent by God and so he announced it to the people and his disciples. When Andrew met Lord Jesus he went and told his brother Simon Peter about Him; it was then that Peter went on to meet Lord. Like Andrew, if you can be the lamp that leads others to the Lord; they too will reap bountiful harvest like Peter who was given incharge of the Lord’s sheep i.e God built the church upon him. Converse to someone good about Lord Jesus; encourage and help others by sharing your knowledge about Him. A good work in His name can perform wonders in the coming days. In the entire history of mankind, it is only our Lord Jesus who descended from the heavens to the dark earth to invite sinners to His Light. He said, “I have not come to call respectable people but outcasts.” (Matthew 9:13) He comforts us, “Come to Me all of you who are tired from carrying heavy loads and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28) He touched and healed the leper (Matthew 8:14);He touched and healed the blind; He allowed the lady who came with great faith to touch His cloak and be cured; He accepted the unholy public making them holy with His presence. He mingled with the rejected and the outcasts; relished a meal with the sinners. He made His Everlasting Light to shine and burn upon them. He sought after the lost in the darkness and on finding, carried them on His shoulders to the Heavenly Father. Wiping out the tears from everyone who approached Him; He comforted those who sought refuge in Him. Look and call out to Him; He is in you and near you. You can hold Him with faith and just a touch gain deliverance. He is the only Lord and your way to Salvation. To comfort the anguish of Martha and Mary; His Life-giving Light delved deep down to the tomb of their only brother; the warmth of His light imparting warmness to Lazarus cold body and granting breathe to his lifelessness. 

So dear ones, if you are in any of the above state or even worse than all the above instances do not lose heart! Taste and see His Divine Power, the Holy Spirit in the form of light and fire. As we begin the solemn observance for the season of Lent that invites us, the believers to forty days of fasting, prayer and alms-giving.

Spend time with God as much as possible in reading the Holy Bible, reciting novenas and Rosary to invoke more spiritual assistance to give up adamant habits that has chained you over the years. Rather than the regular meal skipping practice; we suggest that you follow simplicity in your grooming; refrain from talkativeness and take time for self-assessment ; practice calmness; chase egotism. Resolve to alms-giving when the urge for self indulgence arises and have a grip over mortal luxury memorizing that you are soil and will perish into it.

God is faithful in His promises and will fulfill it in His own time; If you are persistent in your spiritual journey, I assure, you will be made worthy to receive the promises before His time. Experience and keep it on a lamp stand to welcome others. So let us resolve to be a pillar of cloud and fire for the entire world!

GOD OF LIGHT

The Holy Bible says,"You, Lord, are my light. You dispel my darkness." (2 Samuel.22:2)

PART ONE

When God created the universe, the desolate earth and the raging ocean were engulfed in darkness. The light appeared when He, who is the Source of Light commanded. He reformed the world by setting the sun in the sky. When Sovereign God ordered Moses to lead His people, who were enslaved in darkness, the Holy God Himself went in the front as a pillar of cloud to show them the way; and as a pillar of light to give them light during the night. (Exodus 13:21) Moses face was radiant when he would descend from Mount Sinai - for the reason that he had been worthy to stand in the dazzling light of His Holy Presence; and Aaron and all the people were afraid to go near him. The Eternal Light, exist over the world bringing in brightness and clarity on each object; His burning and shining light eradicates us from darkness and its dangers.

Almighty God in His utmost Love, always yearned that His people would live in His Light and Glory through their obedience to Him. Unfortunately man in his arrogance, envious, self-centered nature chose to swim against God’s Divine Plans and initiated making god and goddess out of metal, rock wood etc., of their liking and worshipped them. Supreme God in His patience- chose not to punish man for his fall and failure; instead He chose certain faithful ones, filled fire of love in their hearts and sent them out as His prophets to warn and bring back those gone astray to His Abundant Light. But regrettably, man still cherished darkness over Infinite Light. Prophet Isaiah, before the birth of Jesus Christ foretold that ‘a great light would shine upon the land. The land of the tribes of Zebulun and Naphtali, even Galilee,  the people who lived in darkness have seen a great light.” (Isaiah 9:3) In respect to the above prophesy, God in His chosen time, send His beloved Son for public mission to save His populace from darkness. To announce the arrival of His One and only Son and to prepare the self-centered people,  Loving Father chose John the Baptist as a lamp stand. The birth of Jesus Christ brought a new hope of light into the shadowy world. The Everlasting Light came to the world, shining brightly on all mankind. The Word was light and it penetrated deep into the darkness; revealing the true nature of it. Jesus said to those around Him enveloped in gloom, “I am the Light of the of the world, whoever follows Me will have the light of life and will never walk in the darkness.” (John 8:12)

Life within one’s self imposed restrictions becomes monotonous; break these boundaries and life never fails to surprise us and in the whole journey we gain a memory to honor His Grace for lifetime. In my Spiritual Life, it has always been a priority to spread the message of God’s Salvation and carry this flame of enlightenment to kindle it in the darkest of the dark corners of the world. A brother who attended Prayer Meeting at our centre and received various blessings; approached in request to conduct  prayer at a rarely used church. Now this church constructed on a steep hill top; was build on a plot which was on dispute and it was yet to be get the benefits a parish would be endowed with. Seeing his hunger to be a lamp stand to those around him; we sought to God and replied to him positively. On the day of the service, we reached the church after treading the path between the bushes that had been paved by many footsteps that traveled earlier. As informed earlier by the brother, the church was locked, the prayer would be conducted in the outskirts of the church. Absence of electricity or an awning was overseen in the unexpected huge crowd that had gathered to partake on such a short notice. The prayer began at the allocated 3 PM. Our Creator who controls the entire universe commanded the sun’s scorching rays to withdraw and the winds to provide a pleasant and cool breeze. The crowd comprised of people who were unaware of Charismatic Prayer Meetings and many who would not consent to anyone including priests to place their hands over them to pray. The Preaching on God’s Love, second coming of our Lord and rising of Lazarus from death created an aura of faith and infused hope into their dark life. The outpouring of healing, deliverance and blessings were beyond the human grasp and the Word of God touched everyone including the children. Through God’s power bestowed everyone who heard the Word was anointed by the Holy Spirit; His Light shone on everyone banishing internal darkness of actions, thoughts and went on to receive a pray over. Time passed too quickly and it was getting dark; we were yet to reach the bottom. Now with the presence of His Divine Light the people were rid off the fear of travelling in the forest and now they acknowledged that they are light of the hill. we all lighted candles to see in the dark. It was a larger-than-life moment to witness God’s caring Love that encircled each one personally. The breeze that blew at His command made sure to obey its Creator to refresh us and not to blow off our candles. Praising and Thanking God who abide with us we reached to the bottom of the hill; marking this occasion as memorable day. No words can suffice to extend our gratitude to the Everlasting Light who was so generous towards His children and the splendor His Presence brightened our outer eyes too. When you believe and confess your faith in all crucial situations; however strong the storm of darkness may blow; His Everlasting Light will guard our light from blowing off.

At the beginning of  His public ministry, He opened the eyes of a man born blind. Answering to His disciple’s question to the cause of the man’s blindness Jesus answers, “…… I am the light for the world.” (John 9:5) Similarly, Jesus said to His disciples, “You are the light for the whole world,” by quoting this Jesus stipulates that they be like Him. (Matthew 5:14) Light has many qualities; it can be seen and attracted to; dispels darkness; illuminates the path impeding us from taking the wrong step. Light has the power to warm people and places swathed in cold and despair. When the disciples were sailing their boat on a dark and stormy night; their boat tossed about by the waves as a strong wind was blowing against it; they were mislead and frightened. They saw something ahead and got terrified; But as soon as Jesus came near to them they recognized Him. Yes dear ones, the light shows our ways clearly. Every disciple of Christ is called to give light to those in the dark and impart love to the lovelorn; kind to the unkind; hope to the hopeless and to show the way to those who lost their way to the Father.

WARNINGS AGAINST IDOLS

I want you to remember, my brothers, what happened to our ancestors who followed Moses.  They were all under the protection of the cloud, and all passed safely through the Red Sea.  In the cloud and in the sea they were all baptized as followers of Moses.  All ate the same spiritual bread and drank the same spiritual drink.  They drank from the spiritual rock that went with them; and that rock was Christ himself.  But even then God was not pleased with most of them, and so their dead bodies scattered over the desert.

Now, all this is an example for us, to warn us not to desire evil things, as they did, not to worship idols, as some of the did. As the scripture says “The people sat down to a feast which turned into orgy of drinking and sex.”  We must not be guilty of sexual immorality, as some of them were -- and in one day twenty-three thousand of them fell dead.   We must not put the Lord to the test, as some of them did- and they were killed by snakes. We must not complain, as some of them did- and they were destroyed by the Angel of Death.

All these things happened to them as examples for others, and they were written down as a warning for us.  For we live at a time when the end is about to come. 

Whoever things he is standing firm had better be careful that he does not fall.  Every test that you have experienced is the kind that normally comes to people.  But God keeps his promise, and he will not allow you to be tested beyond your power to remain firm; at the time you are put to the test, he will give you the strength to endure it, and so provide you with a way out.

So then, my dear friends, keep away from the worship of idols. I speak to you as sensible people; judge for yourselves what I  say.   The cup we use in the Lord’s Supper and for which we give thanks to God:  when we drink from it,  we are sharing in the blood of Christ.   And the bread we break:  when we eat it, we are sharing in the body of Christ.  Because there is the one loaf of bread, all of us, though many, are one body, for we all share the same loaf.

THE COVENANT IS RENEWED

The Lord said to Moses, “I now make a covenant with the people of Israel.  In their presence I will do great things such as never been done anywhere on earth among any of the nations.  All the people will see what great things I, the Lord, can do, because I am going to do an awesome thing for you.  Obey the laws I am giving you today.  I will drive out the Amorites, the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, as you advance.  Do not make any treaties with the people of the country into which you are going, because this could be a fatal trap for you.  Instead, tear down their altars, destroy their sacred pillars, and cut down the symbols of their goddess Asherah.

“Do not worship any other god, because I, the Lord, tolerate no rivals.  Do not make any treaties with the people of the country, because when they worship their pagan gods and sacrifice to them, they will invite you to join them, and you will be tempted to eat the food they offer to their gods.  Your sons might marry those foreign women, who would lead them to be unfaithful to me and to worship their pagan gods. 

“Do not make and worship gods of metal.

“Keep the Festival of Unleavened Bread.  As I have commanded you, eat unleavened bread for seven days in the month of Abib, because it was in that month that you left Egypt. 

“Every first-born son and first born male domestic animal belongs to Me, but you are to buy back every first born donkey by offering a lamb in its place.  If you do not buy it back, break its neck.  Buy back every first born son. 

“No one is to appear before Me without an offering.  You have six days in which to do your work, but do not work on the seventh day, not even during ploughing time or harvest. 

“Keep the Harvest Festival when you begin to harvest the first crop of your wheat, and keep the Festival of Shelters in the autumn when you gather your fruit. 

“Three times a year all your men must come to worship Me, the Lord, the God of Israel.  After I have driven out the nations before you and extended your territory, no one will try to conquer your country during the three festivals.

“Do not offer bread made with yeast when you sacrifice an animal to me.  Do not keep until the following morning any part of the animal killed at the Passover festival. 

“Each year bring to the house of the Lord the first corn that you harvest. 

“Do not cook a young sheep or goat in its mother’s milk.”  

The Lord said to Moses, “Write these words down, because it is on the basis of these words that I am making a covenant with you and with Israel.”  Moses stayed there with the Lord forty days and nights, eating and drinking nothing.  He wrote on the tablets the words of the covenant – the Ten Commandments.
